These Cockpit Bags make use of the areas on either side of your seat. They can be attached onto the rudder cable or attached to the sides with quick release buckles. They are easily removable and do not interfere with your position. They can also be used to pad out your boat for a better fit. A great place to put your survival kit and other easy to reach items. These storage bags are meant to be mounted on the inside of your boats chine.

Note
Read over these instructions thoroughly. If you don’t feel comfortable with any of the steps please feel free to call us or your dealer. This entire project should be done in a well ventilated area. Also, poor air circulation within the kayak will cause mineral spirits vapors to linger longer. Installation is quite simple and should only take you about half an hour.

Tip
Once you have marked out where the bags are to be attached, suspend the boat inverted; this way you can work in a standing position.

Contents

  • 2 Interior Mount Cockpit Bag
  • 4 Vinyl mounting patches with buckles

You Will Need for Installation:

  • Pencil or felt marker
  • Mineral spirits (Toluene or MEK)
  • Vinyl adhesive (Vinyl-Tec 2000 or Vina-bond)
  • Newspaper
  • Piece 80 to 100 grit sandpaper
  • Clean-up rag
  • Heat gun or hair dryer (optional)

MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS
Locating Attachment Points for Vinyl Anchors

  1. Fill the bag with crumpled newspaper so it takes its natural shape.
  2. Fasten the 2 vinyl patches to the buckles on the bag.
  3. Place the bag at the side of the seat slightly in front of the seat support.
  4. Once you are comfortable the bag is not going to interfere with the operation of the rudder and safe exit of the boat, note where the bag sits.
  5. Adjust each vinyl base so they are about 1 beyond the edge of the bag itself on the chine. Mark the outside circumference of the vinyl patch. Repeat for each of the remaining patches.
  6. Sand the entire area within the circles you have marked.
  7. Clean the sanded surface and the vinyl patch using mineral spirits.
  8. Repeat for other bag.

Gluing in the Vinyl Patches

  1. Apply vinyl adhesive to the marked, sanded and cleaned circles and the vinyl patches. Let dry for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat both the patch and the glued areas on the boat with a heat gun or hair dryer to reactivate the glue. If you do not have one, apply another thinner coating of glue to both the boat and the patch.
  3. Align the vinyl patch with the marked lines. Press the patch to the boat, working out any air bubbles. Allow 8-10 hours to dry.

Rudder Cable Mounting
If your boat has rudder cables running down the inside of your cockpit, you can simply separate the Velcro flap on the back of the bag and place them over the cable. Ensure the tab is fully opened and the rudder cable is resting on the nylon webbing re-enforcement.

Before proceeding out on the water test to see that the filled bags do not hinder the safe operation of the rudder and the safe exiting from the boat.

ROTO-MOLDED OR PLASTIC BOATS
You Will Need:

  • 4 stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers (available at your dealer)
  • Pencil or felt marker
  • Pair of scissors
  • Star screwdriver
  • Adjustable wrench or similar
  • Drill and 3/16 drill bit.

Follow the above instructions from 1-5 to determine the drill points on the hull.

  1. Prepare the vinyl patches by drilling a hole into the center of the webbing between the two bar tack stitches. This will allow the bolt to pass through. Take a match or lighter and melt the edges of the hole to reduce fraying.
  2. Now, with the scissors you can either cut the vinyl from around the nylon or leave them as they are.
  3. Place the vinyl patch or webbing with the hole up against the inside of the hull and mark where you will drill the bolt hole. Carefully drill one hole at a time and bolt the webbing/vinyl patch to the boat. When bolting the vinyl patch to the boat ensure the buckle is facing the correct direction while tightening.
  4. Now double check the second drill mark before drilling the hole. Repeat this for the other side.
